I am finally moving my company into the Digial Color market! We need to purchase a color machine for printing VDP postcards on a glossy card stock. We estimate an average monthly volume of around 50K. We need a medium duty machine that can print at or around 50ppm.

I have looked into the 2060, 5252, and 6060. Our budget may not allow the 6060 so I wanted to get feedback on the options I mentioned, or perhaps a different line of product. I have read all the info I have been able to find online, however most of it is published by the makers of each machine. I want to hear it from printers themselves.

1. What would people using the machines recomend?

2. How does the 5252 compare to the 2060?

ANY thoughts at all are greatly appriciated!!!!

5252 is an improved version of the 2060/2045 platform. It is a reconfigured / slowed down 6060.

The 6060/5252 platform has since been replaced with the 8000/7000 series. There are plenty of used 2060's through 6060's that I would highly consider you look at.

The 2060 is showing its age. The 6060 is really not that much different then the 2060 except for some service improvements.

The 8000 / 7000 series is a major change in the line. The toner is different and a big speed improvement.

Guess it comes down to what type of volume is the 50k you are doing.

With the glossy stock and heavyweight, realize that all the Xerox printers listed above slow down considerably and technically can't automatically 2 side anything above 80lb cover. Assuming the postcards are 10pt or greater to meet postal spec, the only series that can technically do that is the 7000/8000 (I believe)

Also, you might want to look at Indigo. In combo with a UV coater, you could get a really good deal on a used indigo out there, assuming you are comfortable with doing the mainentence?

BTW, we have a 2060 and an iGen3
