Full Version: Paper for IGen
Digital Print Forums > Full Color > Xerox > iGen3
Tracey
Our Paper Contracts are being rebid and the front runner is offering paper that I want to know if anyone is using or have used in the past and what their results have been. Would you recommend using the paper on the IGEN based on your experience with it.

The RML is not clear on potential issues related to these stocks.

The paper brands in questions are:

Storaenso Futura
- Gloss & Dull Cover & Text
Sappi Opus Gloss & Dull Text & Cover
Domtar Starbrite Text & Cover

How did they handle full solid coverage? Any dropouts - fuser issues? wrinkling?

thanks for your input

Sappi Opus Gloss never ran for us, we had a customer that required it. Not sure if the mill ever made a digital version, but we couldn't get toner to fuser properly.

Thanks for the input. What paper are you using?

Tracy,

Whle I think Xerox papers do preform the best and come ream wrapped in sized including max sheet size, I have been using other stocks as well with success. The biggest problem is with the smoothness of the surface, if you tilt the sheet in the light and get a glare that looks mottled (kind of like a parchment look), that look will show in the dark solids especially in the blacks. Example being Cougar smooth uncoated compared to Xerox is night in day with solids. I have not had any stock that has not run through the press ok, usually it is the finish and finishing that may have an issue..

Thanks, Dale for your input. Xerox papers are ideal, however we as a state agency are governed by a State Law that includes a Recycled Mandate and most of Xerox's paper did not meet our requirements, so we have to use other manufacturers. I am aware of the Mottle issues with other stocks and we have been able in the past to work around this in most cases. Xerox's paper is also cost prohibitive except when ordering by the Truck load and we do not have that kind of storage space available.

I have not run it myself, but have seen and heard about people running the Domtar Starbrite with success.

Hi Tracy,

We've used the Futura 80# Gloss text and Domtar Windsor 60# offset with great success. Altough our application was strickly black. The solids did look very nice on the Futura Laser. The Domtar wasn't bad with the solids considering that it is offset stock. We are constantly trying different stocks and substrates on our iGEN and what worked one day sometimes won't the second time around. Hope this helps.
