From a workflow process, files with legitimate pantone call outs, should the name of the call out be changed at pre-press in order to maintain the integrity of the spire library. (My spire library is not a total match for most pantone colors) The issue is a possible color shift. The original spire pantone sheets printed back in Aug 06 (there were no customized pantone call outs in the library) and the spire pantone sheets printed now show a change in color, and the call outs I customized should change.
I operate our igen but do not submitt the files to the creo, I would like to know if I should have pre-press change the names of pantone call outs to maintain the integrity of the spire library? I need to know what process we need to use in order to maintain a consistent spire pantone library when I want to compare and see if we have an actual color shift.
Thx

JC,
If I understand your question correct your prepress team should be making adjustments to the name of the colors. If your clients are anything like ours I'm sure they ask for a certain color and then asks if you can darken it or lighten it and add a little more here or a little more there. What they are asking for is a custom color. Some of our clients ask for a pantone color but have their own mix in mind. What we do is have our prepress team name the color something like XYZ_Blue or ABC_Red. We then add that as a custom color in our library. This keeps you from having problems matching a color down the road. If you make changes to Pantone 185 to give one customer a certain look it will make it a a lot harder to match that color for the next customer who wants the true Pantone 185 color. Your library may not be a total match currently but changing it to match the actual color is better than changing it to meet customers expectation. If you are using your library to check color shift you don't want to have a different set of colors every time you print it or it won't be a true check.
Hopefully this helps.
