I'm debating switching out fuser rolls when we print to other stocks, 11 x 17, 8.5 x 11, etc...

Paul,

This would certainly be in Xerox's best interest. And possibly in yours... Did they suggest maintaining a fuser for each size? What do you do now?

Fusers can definitely last longer if you change them to for each stock size; however, is that in your best interest? You do not gain financially like you would with the Nexpress ORC model. It might save you time or it could have the opposite effect. Are your jobs long enough that justify changing fusers out from size to size? Do you take the approach of run it as long as you can and always throw a new one in?

We changed fusers when we were going to be running a particular size for long enough or when we had to. But, how many fusers do you want sitting around?

I would personally recommend doing some swapping, in the end you will probably increase your quality while strengthen (as opposed to damaging) your relationship with Xerox.

It definitely works to use a new fuser for large size and save that fuser for smaller sizes as you need them.

Best of luck.

weve just had our engineer in and theres a new fuser fluid which is meant to improve fuser life by 80% havnt tried it yet just got it on order so we shall see if it improves it. we have three fusers set up 2 for different sizes and a 1 for uncoated papers and this has increased our fuser life dramatically were getting near on 70K where we was at 20K previous to having the three.

We do alot of 8.5X11 printing and 11X17 as well with out no issues with the fuser roll. When we get orders for 14" we do switch out the fuser roll as the 11 forms wear out a portion of the roll and leave a "line" right at the 11" mark when printing 14".

As far as the duration a fuser roll lasts, it varies from 50,000 to 700,000. We've had rolls changed out the next day and others last two weeks.

As you can imagine, 700K is at the extreme and is usually only approached when we get multiple long run jobs that are of the same size and thickness. As for the RDS, we don't change anything as long as the quality is good. You usually know it's time to change one out by the roll turning an off orange color or you get wrinkling in the paper.

I have just spent two weeks training on our new iGen3 90, printing fewer than 10000 sheets and have noticed marks at 11, 12 and 14.3" intervals on the fuser. An IB to OB colour shift has just appeared tonite and I was wondering if it may be caused by the grief we inflicted upon the fuser with 315 gsm rigid texured 8.5x11 stock.

Due to some manufacturing issues on our press, our service manager if feeling somewhat generous. Should I ask for four (8.5,11,12,14.3") fuser rolls? Two of each? Extras for textured stock? We do really short run work, so far, and the Xerox guys say that will be rough on the machine.

Seems to me, a clean, blemish and mark free fuser is critcal to image quality, but I'm also very noob on the iGen.
