Full Version: Anyone using JDF Portal for Job submission

We are playing around with the ups and downs of using a JDF workflow to our Nexpress and wonder what others are doing with JDF and the Nexpress?

What tools are you using to generate the JDF?

Do you find the fact that the file uri option works well?

Did you have problems setting up server permissions to access the file?

How do you handle VI and still use a JDF ticket?

How do you handle proofing and job reprints with the JDF? Do your resubmit the JDF?

Do you use any third party color management software / workflows that preserve the JDF workflow?

Do you have regular repeating work or new files and using JDF?

I definately like parts of the jdf portal; however, there is a lot of opportunity for improvement.

I really like the URI for pointing to the production file. It is nice to not move the pdf file to the rip until it is required at the rip. This is nice for being able to load up a large number of files on the front end. It is also nice for network utilization. Imagine a typical enviroment where most of your prep work is done on first or first and second shift, while most of your production might be done 2nd and 3rd shifts. Why not move all those big files around after hours.

Setting it up (permisions and such) was incredibly easy after finding someone who know the required components of the configuration.

I do not care for the new default on NexStation 8.5 where it removes jdfs / print files after completion. It should move them to the complete jobs area. Or atleast be a configurable option in the jdf.

Oh well. Enough for know on JDF. Definately alot of fun stuff to play with though.
