We upgraded to 8.5 and have been using the FM Screening option that simulates Staccato DX on the Nexpress and have been very pleased with the results. I'm curious if others are using it and to what success?

Have you found that the gamut is any bigger?

Did you see noticable improvements in screens / tints?

Did the color change / shift?

Are you using less toner then the other screen methods?

Are your customer liking it? Do they ask for it?

Does it match your offset FM Screening / Stocastic process?

Played with it a little in both the offset world and the digital world. I personally never liked anything I saw. I must have an application that it is suited for, but I haven't seen it yet...

Just out of curiousity Dale, where and what did you use in the digital world for Staccato DX? My understanding is that Kodak is the first to have true Staccato DX FM Screening.

Hi Patrick!

I work with Igen and they have a STACHASTIC screening opinion. I have not used it for an actual job but have tried on a dozen occasions and have not found it to be a help or an enhancement...

Right, Stocastic on the iGen3 and Staccato DX are completely different. Staccato DX FM screening is the same Staccato dot that is used in offset Staccato output. The iGen3 stocastic line screen is more like an inkjet output, where the dots are just randomly placed.

We have so far printed most with OPTIMUM screening. The Smooth FM screening setting makes the images go way more to the magenta/red side. Optimum looks most like our regular press screening (Heidelberg) and with the right ICC profile it more or less matches the press room even. I will have to try using FM screening some more with the right ICC profile (making it less red/magenta).
