Toner usage is a difficult subject.
First, you would think that if it is light area coverage, meaning less then 7% ink coverage on the page, that you would use less toner since its not ending up on the page, but you probably notice the toner waste bottle filling up faster. Why? Because, in order to keep color consistent, Xerox has to waste that toner because you aren't putting it on the page.
Second, you would think that if I use heavy coverage, I'm not wasting the toner, since it is all going down on the page... But, the waste toner bottle still gets full. And the toner goes even faster.
My point is, Xerox machines use toner on a more consistent basis, lighter toner coverage does not mean less toner used, as it just ends up in the toner waste bottle.
