Hello everybody! The company I work for is going to be installing a Igen. Overall, What do you think of the machine? I have seen lots of posts about problems, which is good, but I would like to know how it compares to some of the other digital presses. Any feedback would be great! Have a good one!

Nick, Welcome to the Igen Family. The Igen is a good machine, does great work (except when you are experiencing a problem, then it can feel like a nightmare). Your first 6 months are going to be hardest, as you get familiar with the machine, viewing and diagnosing artifacts and working out the bugs inherent in your new machine and fitting it into your production workflow. I can't really give you a comparison to other machines, but the quality is compariable to offset (in some cases it looks better than offset). We had a Xerox 2060 prior to getting our Igen and there is no comparison in quality and speed. I highly recommend Keeping a artifact sample book, as you or your service tech diagnose problems mark on the sample what the problem was and how it was fixed, this is very helpful if a problem reoccurs in the future and it can lead to less down time.

Welcome aboard.... smile.gif

I ran a Nexpress for 2 years and now the Igen for 2 years and I can tell you that the Igen is a much better machine for lots of reasons. I would also like to add that since Kodak took over the Nexpress they have made some nice strides so those reasons are getting less but because of the layout of the machine I think it will always have some down falls.

Some of the things that separate the Igen from the Nexpress are:
The ability to print nice solid blacks...
The ability to print on very textured stocks..
The ability to Roll feed.. Inline UV Coat... (I know the Nexpress glosser, but it is toner)
More up times and quicker daily maintnance....
Flexability to add stackers/Feeders.....
Speed...
etc.

Don't be fooled by the complaints you see here. This site is to discuss problems so you will see more problems posted than success stories. But all machines have their share of problems, and some might just be operator related, so take it with a grain and know tha the Igen is a good solid machine as you will soon see..

Nick,

Welcome to the site and good luck with your new challenge. I am probably not the best person to ask because I feel the igen has some limitations and problems that are significant that Xerox is not interested in addressing; however, for many things the igen can be a good thing.

My main advise would be to caution you not to allow service to change your expectations of the machine. You (or the decision maker in your company) bought the machine because of specific capabilities or illustrations of quality. Continue to hold Xerox to that expectation and require them to work with you to maintain that level of output.

Good Luck,
John

Hey People!
Thanks for the replies. I appreciate the feedback. I have already learned a few things about the machine and havn't even had my hands on it. Reading about some of the problems and (hopefully) fixes has been really informative! I hope that this forum will be extremelly useful and someday maybe I can be of service to you!
Have a great one!
