Apart from the speed increase and larger paper/print capacity of the iGen, what are the other reasons someone would purchase it over a DC7000?
I looked for a comparison on the Xerox site, but found nothing.

Wow,

Where to start... We have an iGen3 and a Xerox 2060 and they are about as different as apples and oranges.

First of all, it comes down to speed and paper size and paper weight.

The iGen3 is really in a class of its own... It is truely a production level color device capable of producing in excess of a million and a half impressions per month regardless of paper stock or weight.

The iGen3 doesn't slow down for paper thickness. The 2000's 6000's 7000's and 8000's do. The heavier the paper the slower the machine.

Quality is different on the 7000's vs the iGen3. As they are completely different engines.

Basically, you should take a look at both and see for yourself. The applications you are going to run will dictate the device(s).

Also, the front end choice is an important one as well, along with the amount of maintenence you are willing to take on yourself.

Stepping into an iGen3 is not something anyone should do lightly. Take the time to research and testing of your applications is crucial to making the right decision.

If you have any specific questions, let me know and I can see what I can answer.

All in all, I agree with Patrick (it is not often he hears that from me biggrin.gif )

The print engine is an important aspect of the decision making process. But equally if not more important is the decision about which DFE (digital front end) to go with.

I have had considerable experience with the Xerox DocuColor 6060 and 5252 and some experience with the Igen. All are excellent products. What I have seen of the 7000 and 8000 is that they have minor differences and improvements over the 6060.

Keep in mind the types of paper stocks, stock changes, coverage area, color precision (specifically with PMS colors), etc. that will be required for your targeted digital print work.

The Igen provides the best digital output I have ever seen; however, to achieve that requires considerable resources and expertise. It is not as simple as open the file and click print. Operators need to understand print, equipment mantenance, color and all of the related software applications.

Also, consider the typical length of runs, sometimes a better decision is multiple devices (slightly slower) over a single device that might be faster. Multiple devices could provide much needed redundancy (digital presses do go down from time to time) and better workload balancing.
