Is anyone having any issues with their fuser's prematurely wearing out? Ours has been going about every 80 to 100K. We have the third generation oiler, as a test platform but that seems to be worse. Our tech. seems to think it's because we run mostly 12x18 coated sheets (always the paper). Friday we had an issue where the toner was not fused on the outboard edge and it looked as if the fuser was pulling the toner off the sheet. We have an entire fuser unit coming on Monday, to see if that changes anything.

I don't think that we've had any problems like that. Of course, our volume is only about 20k a month, so we might not be wearing and tearing on it as much as you. When we're running Sterling Ultra Digital Gloss cover we seem to run into an issue where the toner is getting scratched off the sheet about 4 inches or so from the lead edge in two spots, but I wasn't under the impression that it was fuser related. We haven't had the problem on any other stock to speak of. We'd worked around it the last time it came up and I'd forgotten to bring it up to the tech the last time he came in.

Go figure, Xerox chained a fuser unit for a 6060! Looks like we have another coming for an 8000AP tomorrow. I'll let you know.

is it 80k of 12x18 sheets or 80k of letter sized impressions? At 80k of 12x18 sheets I would say that would be decent life out of a fuser (80k x 2up x 2 sides = 320,000 letter impressions) but if its the other way around and only 80k of letter sized impressions, then that's a different story.

How many hours of running do you get before the fuser is worn out?

80K mostly 12x18 duplexed.

I would have to guess on the hours, maybe 30-40???

Looks like a new fuser unit was the answer. I hate to speak too soon though, we only put 8000 on it after it was installed, I'll give it a few more day's before I feel comfortable again.

Patrick, do you keep track of the hours on your parts as well as impressions? I never put much thought into that, figured it only mattered how many impressions since that's what my service tech. it always complaining about.

Well, not exactly, but fusers sitting in a machine not moving and cammed together will start to lose their round shape. This will cause problems over time. So they can wear out without impressions being put on them.

I don't know if or how much the 8000 uncams its fuser / pressure roller, but some older equipment or things like office copiers can have this issue.

Most if not all parts should be measured on number of impressions. My point of my previous post was to show that not all "impressions" are equal.

Xerox measures the effective impressions something should get in letter sized impressions. So at 80k of 12 x 18 sheets, that would be 320k of letter sized impressions, which at 80k you may think you are getting bad life out of fuser parts, but if the fuser is only rated at 300k (letter sized impressions) you were actually getting 20k better then expected.

Point well taken, never thought much about the camming of the rollers! I'll ask service next time about this to see if they actually uncam. Thanks!! The weird thing is that our first fuser from install lasted almost 220K. After that it's been from as few as 35K to 150K. (almost all 12x18, 60% duplexed)
