How much are you guys getting paid for running the Igen? Right now I am getting $xx.xx hr. I have over 7 years of printing exp. 2 years on Igen. Should I be getting more?
patrick
Personally, it depends on your responsibilities.

Do you do any prepress work?

Do you do any of the programming for VDP jobs?

Do you do any color correction / curve adjustments?

Do you program the job tickets on the DFE?

Do you set up the workflow / hotfolders?

Do you do all the maintenance or have service come in and do it?

Do you do the finishing work? cutting, folding, etc?

I do all the maintenance on the Igen
I do color correction as needed
I do search points/reprints of jobs
I set up virtual printers/stock media
I sometimes cut my own stock
I also run a xerox 2060 on the side.

Every two weeks I switch off with another Igen operator to run xerox 180's and xerox 92c

Well, depending on the area of the country and how many IGen3 / digital press operators are available in the area that could be pretty good or about in the middle.

I am from California. There are maybe at least two more Igens in my area. There are 3 other operators besides myself that is certified to run Igen in our shop. Just curious, how much are you guys making? The Xerox tech said Igen operators make around $20 hr.

I am from central Illinois and both of those numbers you mentioned are above what I make. I have been with the company for 10+ years and running the iGen for 5. Our job starts at the DFE and includes maintenance of the machine. We do some color correcting at the DFE and some troubleshooting of files that are not correct but major corrections are handled in another dept. We UV coat some of our jobs which is also our responsibility.

Patrick when you say program job ticket on the DFE exactly what do you mean. Just wondering if we call it something else.
patrick
What I mean by program the job ticket, I mean set up the specific job settings for the DFE / RIP (Fiery, DocuSP, NexStation, Creo Spire, etc) since this task can either be down by the operator or upstream using JDF either by someone else, or automatically by workflow.
