Full Version: Finishing options for Indigo's?

I have been looking into finishing options for Indigo's, particularly the 1000 series. My main interest is perfect binding and 3 sided cutting. From what I have read, the 1050 has only near-line finishing "optimized" for the Duplo 642 cutter, and DPC booklet maker (guest that is the DBM binder).

Is there an inline option for either cutting or binding?

What options are there for the 3000 series?

There are no inline finishing options for the indigo. Nearline is just move it close and accept a pile of collated material vs uncollated stacks in bins.

The 645 is ok for trimming, but not for books, its more for postcards, business cards, etc.

Are you perfect binding in book blocks or signatures?

Hi Patrick,

Thanks for the reply. Mainly I am interested in book blocks. The 645 flash demo looks great for cards and more. So, similar to my question about the 6060, I am looking for the most automated process possible to get a book block trimmed and perfect bound.

Also, while i'm in this form, do you happen to know the difference between the Indigo 1000 and 1050 - what did they add? I've seen several 1000's are going for ~$30K these days, which makes them highly appealing.

Indigo and books, IMHO the worst thing you can do. Remember the 1000's don't fuse the ink completely, so offsetting can and will occur. Pressing the books together could easily result in ink transfer.

Also, maintenence is tremendous on these, although the speed on 1 color is fast, it is offset by the amount of work required to run it.

As for the difference between the 1000 and 1050, I don't know the specifics, but I don't believe it was hardware, but more software then anything.

I'm looking for some equipment to do UV coating in paper sheets 13x19 coming out from a HP Indigo 5500. If somebody knows what kind of equipment is available in the market to do this kind of job, please let me know.
Any help would be appreciated.
Thanks,
George
