Anyone change from one vendor to another - be it Xerox, Kodak, HP.

Anyone go from indigo to igen or igen to indigo or kodak to igen or .......

If so why did you change and did you make the right move?

Who is running different machine in together and why?

Thanks!

Well, Dale, you know we switched from iGen to Nexpress and haven't looked back.

It was clearly the right choice. Don't have to worry about color consistency, we match offset and Gracol using G7 and get all the extras like clear toner.

Don't have to worry about toner scratch off

Haven't had a machine down for more then a shift or two waiting for a part.

Service is only here for upgrades or retrofits, and the occasional mechanical failure

We have seen amazing improvements to the Nexpress (PDF Print Engine, speed upgrades, IQ upgrades, new features, faster cycle up times, more ink coverage, new toner options, etc)

I am so happy we switched from iGen3 to Nexpress, granted every press has its own headaches, but at least with Nexpress I can deal with them, instead of dealing with service.

Dale, are you thinking of switching????

Well.. what I am thinking is possible Indigo / Nexpress swap?? I think the Nexpess had do everything the Indigo is needed for here and more. I went up to Kodak a couple of weeks ago and was very impressed as I haven't worked with the Nexpress for 4-5 years now. As you know I am an Igen fan and I think that my Xerox support people here are nothing but top shelf. I feel all three machines are good machines and each has it's weak points, it's just which weak point cause you the least pains. My Indigo Service and support have been nothing but a disappointment and the scratch off issues and registration issue I have been having, have me at my wits end..

I truly believe they all have great quality when it comes to images, it's when you have large screen areas or full color floods, that's where things get interesting depending on the machine.. Reliability and Support is what I want...

Do you think that the Igen and Nexpress can co-exist? What I mean by this is, is there a logical workflow for such an environment? Can Prinergy tie them together? I'm on a DocUsp front end on my Igen.

THanks Again!

Nexpress and iGen3 can co-exist. Especially with Prinergy in the mix. Prinergy can drive the DocuSP but you need some sort of Freeflow server in front of it, I believe. I am sure someone from Xerox can clarify, if not, I can get someone at Kodak to let me know.

I am fasinated by your take on the Indigo. I still suspected they have the problems they claim to have solved, but now I have some proof smile.gif

Anyway, spend some time with the Prinergy guys, make sure you get a really good demo from the Vancouver guys via Webex.

I think you are going to find that Nexpress can do everything the iGen3 can do and more. But does that obsolete the iGen3? Probably not, you can make it work. I'd just worry what Xerox will do, if their service will drop off because of not getting that 2nd box.

You might want to throw out the possibility of taking out the iGen3 and putting 2 Nexpress in. Having 2 Nexpress is where the benefits of swapping parts and lowering costs really kick in. Just my two cents. Guess it depends on the age of the iGen3 and what is owed, etc. Be careful of the service contract cancel clause Xerox has though... Can be very expensive to cancel service. Make sure you time it right at your renewal stage if you think about doing it.

But honestly, Nexpress and iGen3 will be fine together. Prinergy is pretty much agnostic to output device support. The JDF stuff works just fine to DocuSP once translated by that Freeflow server part. Not sure if they send anything back via JMF or not, but that should come with time. Make sure you take a good hard look at the Nexstation vs the VCS rip on the Nexpress. Without having the PDF print engine now, you might want the VCS, unless you want the PDF Print engine (which I would) then the Nexstation is a must.

Good luck. Hopefully some others will chime in. I am sure Elmo will with his pro Xerox, buy 2 stance smile.gif
